It turned into so much more.... Where were these pumpkins grown and what was their purpose… They were grown here in Tao, NM in a public place, yes, a public place and for a reason. It was created by Julie Shedko and Darren Shedko, from Lettuce Grow Farm. Julie was studying soil biology and wanted to create a demonstration garden to be able to start a conversation about soil and its current health and ways to help rebuild its structure. We started building compost piles using mostly locally sourced materials, that would normally be going to the landfill. It’s a recipe that will create a biologically complete compost, it will stay hot enough for long enough to burn out the weed seed, it has the missing microbes in it that were taken out by the green revolution. (Use of Round up). Biologically complete compost along with cover crops will help speed up the rebuilding process of our so depleted soils.
